Gender Analysis: Negombo and Puttalam Districts, Sri Lanka
21 December 2011 - A gender analysis was carried out by RFLP during November 2011 in the Sri Lankan districts of Negombo and Puttalam. The purpose was to better understand the gender differences in the division of labor; access to and control over resources; and practical needs and strategic interests of women and men.
The analysis used tools and methods detailed in the recently published RFLP field handbook ‘Mainstreaming gender in the fisheries sector’ including daily and seasonal calendars as well as resource and mobility maps.
The attached report highlights the findings of the analysis and the exercise is an example of how the field guide and the tools it contains can be put to practical use so as to better ensure effective consideration of gender related issues in project activities.
